Five finance tasks AI can take over this month

You don't need a big IT project. The biggest savings sit in the boring, repetitive work your team does every week.

When people talk about artificial intelligence in finance, most imagine something distant and expensive. In practice the most value comes from small, boring tasks that repeat every week. Here are the five we usually automate first.

1. Supplier invoices

Invoices arrive by email, as PDFs or e-invoices. AI reads them, recognises the supplier, amount, VAT and due date, suggests the account coding and sends them to your accounting software. A person reviews and approves. Retyping turns into a quick check.

2. Bank reconciliation

Every payment in and out needs to be matched to an invoice. AI does this automatically for clear cases and asks the right person about unclear ones, for example "This €1,240 payment has no invoice. Is it a prepayment from customer X?"

3. Payment runs and fraud protection

From due invoices, AI builds a payment proposal and the file for your bank. Along the way it checks whether a supplier's IBAN has changed and whether the same invoice was already paid. Those are the two most common and most expensive mistakes.

4. Customer reminders

Overdue receivables don't collect themselves. Automatic three-step reminders, written in your tone, shorten collection time without awkward phone calls.

5. The cash report

Every Monday the board gets a short overview: how much cash we have, what falls due next week and where we are running late. No manual gathering of spreadsheets.

What stays with people

Anything that moves money or goes to the tax office is approved by a person. AI does the heavy lifting, while responsibility and decisions stay with you. That keeps the system both fast and safe.

How to start: pick the one process that takes your team the most time and measure how many hours a week it costs. That is your first pilot.

The Finance Brief

One email a month. Only what's worth knowing.

New deadlines and rules, one AI automation you can apply right away and one cash flow tip. The first issue comes out in October 2026.
